At Phillip Island Tenpin, inclusion means everyone belongs. It doesn’t matter where you come from, what you believe, how you identify, what your background is or what your abilities may be.

We understand that people are different, and sometimes the way we communicate, assist or support someone needs to be different too. But the way we value and respect people never changes.

For us, it’s about creating a place where everyone feels welcome, included and comfortable to be themselves.

A PLACE FOR EVERYONE

When Jeremy Westaway and Craig Holmes took over Phillip Island Tenpin Bowling & Entertainment Centre in 2008, the idea was bigger than simply running a tenpin bowling centre.

After visiting bowling centres across Victoria, they saw an opportunity to create something different on Phillip Island: a genuine family entertainment centre where people could spend time together, choose from different activities and feel welcome.

One principle has stayed with us from the beginning…

It should be a place for everyone.

As Phillip Island Tenpin has grown, so has our understanding of what “for everyone” really means.

Accessibility is not only about whether someone can enter the building.

It is about whether they can participate.

Whether they can understand what to expect before they arrive.

Whether there are different ways to take part.

Whether our team is prepared to listen.

Whether someone feels comfortable asking for help.

And ultimately, whether they feel like they belong.

Over the years we have listened to families, carers, schools, disability organisations, community groups and our guests.

We have changed equipment, improved access, adapted activities, developed programs, trained our team and continued to learn.

And we know there will always be more we can do.

Here are some of the things you can expect when visiting Phillip Island Tenpin Bowling & Entertainment Centre.

GETTING HERE & GETTING IN

PI Tenpin has accessible parking close to the centre, step-free entry and wide automatic doors.

There are no steps required on the accessible route into the venue.

MOVING AROUND

Our centre has wide internal pathways and room to move throughout the main visitor areas.

Furniture can be repositioned where practical, and a purpose-built ramp provides step-free access to our bowling lanes.

ACCESSIBLE FACILITIES

An accessible toilet is available with grab rails and room to manoeuvre.

A commercial-grade baby change table is also available for families.

ACCESSIBLE EXPERIENCES

BOWLING

Our eight full-size bowling lanes include a range of options to make participation easier, including:

bowling ramps
lightweight bowling balls
retractable-handle balls
balls with different finger-hole sizes
automatic scoring
individual automatic bumpers
moveable seating
staff assistance with setup

Bumpers can be switched on for one bowler while remaining down for others, allowing everyone to play together on the same lane.

LAZER ZONE

Lazer Zone has wide pathways, targets at different heights and handheld phasers, so players do not need to wear heavy vests or backpacks.

The arena is dark and includes music, game sounds and lighting effects. If sensory considerations are important for your visit, speak with our team and we can explain what to expect.
